Have you ever thought to yourself “I don’t know what to say on my facebook wall”? And maybe, that’s even stopped you from having a business account on a social network at all. Or maybe you’re not sure what your supporters will enjoy and find interesting. Here’s 3 categories of different types of content to push out to your fans that may help.

1. Informative – Information that your reader would find helpful to them

This type of content is probably the easiest to find, and the one topic that you can post often. This can include helpful tips to your customers, like home maintenance, or simple, everyday tips that someone can really use right now in their day to day routine.

2. Personal – Things about your life that people can relate to

As you go about your day, as easy or hard as this may come to you…think about what you can share with your customers. If you find something odd or different on a project you’re working on, pull out your cell phone and snap a quick photo. You can save that to upload later if you don’t have the time to update your twitter account right then. Or maybe you’re having a relaxing evening at home…..tell the world that. You don’t have to get into detail, but that let’s people know that you’re human, and that they are interacting with a person and not just a logo.

3. Promotion – Announcements about your company

Now I’ve saved this one for last, because let me say, this needs to be the least used type of content posted. The bad side of this content is making people feel like they are being sold to and opposite of feeling personal, and people will tune your future updates off and out of their mind. But on the other hand, there are times when a company has a special announcements that your customers that would be interested in. A change in your company, or a new online-only special deal they can get in on, or now offering a new service that someone may need, those are all great examples of promotional content to post about your company.

In all of this, it’s important to create and post things that you would enjoy seeing yourself. And it’s always a plus to keep it fun and entertaining no matter what you share. And by posting something interesting, chances are other people will share it as well, which will expose your company to their list of friends, which will help in growing your social graph.
