Respond, Respond, and then Respond
I’ve been known to say that twitter isn’t a IM client (I tried to find the many tweets that I’ve said that, but that takes too long), but after years of changes to twitter, when someone responds to everybody on twitter, it doesn’t spam up your timeline like it used to. So I’m changing my tune a little.
If you’re into online marketing, or I should say unmarketing, then you need to follow Scott Stratten (@unmarketing). He tweeted this out today…
And it just got me to thinking about the results of actually taking the time to respond to someone taking interest in you or your work. Maybe someone can explain to me in great length how taking two seconds out of their day to respond to a comment you made, or a tweet you sent out talking about their product impacts the human mind to feel so….well….good. But even if you can’t explain, the results are still there.
Respond to everything about yourself, and then some. Someone mentions you, comment. Some talks about something remotely related to you, respond. I’ve seen it work countless times that people will listen to what you have to say once you’ve shown some interest in what they had to say.
Selfish? Maybe. Understandable? Not to me really, but that’s the thing about people, sometimes you just don’t ask why, you just find out what works.
